Before I begin, I was speaking to the Pathways kids this morning, as a member of the Co-pastor Nominating Committee, to update them on our progress. I asked them to write some advice for our new Co-pastor, whoever she will be. As for preaching, they said: Don’t give wordy and seemingly endless sermons. Make them interesting, engage the audience. I don’t doubt for a moment that Jesus brought the son of the widow of Nain back to life. Jesus was reported to be a wonder worker, a healer – and the gospels relate several occasions when Jesus brought a dead person back to life. One of my first baptisms after being called to Forest Hill was for a little girl, perhaps 2 or 3 years old. Her parents were stationed overseas, moved a lot, and had not found a church – Forest Hill had been their home church and so when the parents felt moved to baptize their child it was here that they came.Well, this little girl wanted no part of me, or of getting wet.
