Outdoor Air Fresheners! ~ Saturday, Oct. 3 @ 2pm

Join us at 2 pm, Saturday, Sept 19 and Sat. Oct 3 for Outdoor Air Fresheners, a way to safely be together outside while getting exercise and learning how local organizations are tackling environmentally-related social inequities for people of color. To register email Kemp Jaycox. The walks will be preceded by a Zoom call informing participants of the areas we  walk as well as work being done by the local organizations. Participants must wear a mask and walk at a social distance (6 feet) from those outside their immediate family.

On Oct. 3 at 2pm we’ll walk through Acacia Metroparks Reservation. The pre-walk Zoom call on Sun. Sept. 27 will feature member Scott Lafferty on the ecological restoration efforts conducted there and Sean Terry, Ohio Parks for People Program Director with the Trust for Public Lands on the disparity of park distribution in the Cleveland area (it roughly mirrors redlined areas), the social and health effects of the lack of parks for Cleveland residents and what TPL is doing to address this inequity.

Register by letting Kemp Jaycox know by Sept 16 which one walk(s) you will attend. Once you register, you will be sent in-depth information about each walk, e.g. parking, start times, what to bring, etc. Hope to see you there! This will be fun and informative!

On Sept 19 at 2pm we walked through the Cleveland Cultural Gardens with a special presentation at the African American Garden. Two routes– 0.67 mile or 1.5 miles–will be offered. The pre-walk Zoom call on Sun. Sept. 13 featured Erica Burnett, Dir. Community Building and Engagement, FAMICOS Foundation, describing the environmental services (community gardens, composting, rain barrels, rain gardens, etc.) they provide to residents of the neighborhoods bordering the Cultural Gardens and Lori Ashyk, Exec. Dir. of the Cleve. Cultural Gardens speaking about the gardens, their history and background.
