March 1, 2015 Peg Weissbrod

I am one of the millions of fans of John Stewart, host of the Daily Show, who was heartbroken to hear that Stewart is going off the air sometime this year. I am not sure how I am going to get through the upcoming primary season and next election without him! Read the rest of this entry »

A Time for Reflection and Renewal ~ Matthew 13: 47-49

February 22, 2015 Peg Weissbrod

Dr. Faye A. Gary was born and raised in a rural community in North Central Florida. She is the second of five children, all of whom worked on their family farm during their formative years. At her home church in Ocala, Florida, Dr. Gary was the Sunday School teacher for the senior class for more than two decades. She later became the Superintendent of her Sunday School. These roles provided her with additional opportunities to positively influence the lives of under-resourced youth in the surrounding communities. In addition, her four sons were her most ardent Sunday School supporters – and their required attendance helped.

Most of Dr. Gary’s professional career has been spent as a faculty member in academic institutions such as the University of Florida, Gainesville, and Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland. She has also worked with Ministries of Health across the globe in the service of improving the health and well-being of children and families. Her work is evident in Africa, Brazil, Ecuador, Japan, Australia ( Original Australians), and others.

February 8, 2015 Peg Weissbrod

A teacher was helping one of her kindergarten students put his boots on. It was getting frustrating. Took much pulling and him pushing – finally the one boot went on. By the time she got the second boot on, she had worked up a sweat.

February 1, 2015 Peg Weissbrod

If You Can’t Say Something Nice ~ James 3: 1-18

January 25, 2015 Peg Weissbrod

This is a difficult passage for a preacher. James warns that leaders are judged more harshly in their teachings and will make many mistakes. So, in lieu of a sermon, maybe we should just hold fifteen minutes of silent prayer…..except I have a lot to say! Read the rest of this entry »

A Doubting Faith ~ James 1:1-8

January 11, 2015 Peg Weissbrod

Today is the Sunday designated in the liturgical year as the “Baptism of the Lord.” Jesus is all grown up – just seems like yesterday, last week, that he was in the crib. The “gold, frankincense, and myrrh” brought by those nice foreigners in those pretty costumes. My! How time flies! Read the rest of this entry »
