WE BELIEVE THAT BLACK LIVES MATTER Get Involved

Fighting Homelessness

February 26, 2020

Forest Hill is a long-time partner with Family Promise (formerly known as Interfaith Hospitality Network.) We also work with community groups such as Habitat for Humanity and the Home Repair Resource Center to help families and individuals remain in their homes. Read about how you can get involved with some of these ministries below, and consider this list of things you can do at home to become more aware of the issue: Homelessness Awareness Week Ideas

FAMILY PROMISE

Since Family Promise began housing families at its permanent locations, we support them by collecting supplies for “Family Move Out Bags.” These bags are filled with items necessary for a new and successful life:

toilet paper
paper towels
dish soap
sponges
toilet cleanser and brush
all purpose cleaner
laundry soap
shower curtain and curtain rings
(Reusable shopping bags are also appreciated.)

For more info, contact Sue Lafferty, Deanne Lentz, Anne Smith or any Justice & Mission Elder.  To learn more, visit the Family Promise website.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Habitat for Humanity’s Apostles Build Project serves the way Jesus instructed the apostles to serve: through funding and building homes together with other faith communities. To get involved, watch for sign-ups each Spring as the Summer building dates are announced or contact Nathan Baldwin for more information.

A typical construction day runs from 9am – 3:30pm with a break for lunch around noon. If building is not your strong suit, volunteers to provide lunch on site for the build team each of the 3 days are also needed.

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by doing so some have entertained angels without knowing it. ~ Hebrews 13:2
